The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga Tukur, Thursday said that the party was not taken aback by the defection of members of Sokoto State House of Assembly to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC. According to Tukur, it was clear that after the departure of the state Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, his protégés would do same. Speaking in Abuja shortly after inaugurating a 14-member caretaker committee for Kwara state chapter of the PDP, the chairman described the defection of the lawmakers as “democracy in action”, adding that the PDP is not disturbed by the development.“When 27 people leave, 270,000 more will come in. This is democracy in action. If few had left, many would come in,” he boasted.
The 14-member caretaker committee, led by Solomon Edoja, was to ensure that the PDP maintains its supremacy in Kwara state. The committee was inaugurated because the former State Executive Committee had defected to the All Progressives Congress, alongside Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. Tukur further announced that a caretaker Committee would soon be inaugurated for Sokoto state, after the Executive council in the state also defected to the APC with Governor Aliyu Wamakko. Speaking on behalf of the committee, Edoja assured the PDP that it will produce the next Governor of Kwara State in 2015.
