The camp of the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has lost another staunch member, we learnt that Chief Azubuike Nmerukini, Chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission tendered his resignation on Friday.Nmerukini was before now the Mayor of Port Harcourt. This will be the second in a series of high profile exits from the Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s administration in less than 30 days.
It could be recalled that the State Commissioner for Urban Development, Dr. Tammy Danagogo resigned late last year saying he does not want to be a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC. When contacted, Nmerukini said he resigned for reasons best known to him, adding that he was not under any pressure from the State Government.
However, it was gathered that Chief Nmerukini is a member of the Grassroot Development Initiative, GDI, a group floated by the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike. In the meantime, the Rivers State Government is yet to make an official statement on the resignation.
