Following a communal violence that broke out in the early hours of Thursday between Fulanis and natives of Kafanchan community, the headquarters of Jemaa local government area of Kaduna state , a dusk to dawn curfew has been imposed in the community. According to eyewitnesses, the latest crisis was a spill over of last Sunday’s violence that broke out following the brutal murder of a middle aged man by suspected Fulani gunmen in the community.
It was gathered that security agencies were able to restore peace in the area, but another protest by Fulani alleged killing of their kinsmen sparked-off another round of crisis in the community which made the chairman of the council, Daniel to impose a dusk to dawn curfew. Channels TV News reports:
Confirming the incident to channels television, the state commissioner of police, Mr Olufemi Adenaike said the decision to restrict movement of people was to ensure that the crisis does not spill over to other parts of the state, adding that policemen and soldiers have been drafted to the area to maintain peace and order.
However, the state Governor, Muktar Yero Yero has called on residents of Kafanchan and indeed the entire state to remain calm and law abiding over the security breach that occurred in the area on Monday.
