Anambra state governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has presented cheques totalling over N1.4 billion naira for accelerated progress in education to all mission primary schools in the state. Presenting the cheques to the Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Archbishop Valerian Okeke and his Anglican counterpart, Bishop Christian Efobi, at the Women Development Centre Awka, the governor says the fund is aimed at pushing the final phase of the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, in education ahead of the 2015 target date.
At the Women Development Center, Awka, pupils from mission primary schools, teachers, parents and government functionaries gathered to witness what many called a phenomenal event in the education sector since the creation of Anambra state. The programme is aimed at actualising accelerated breakthrough in education in all the mission primary schools in the state through infrastructural development, strengthening the institutional management of schools and provision of incentives and learning support materials.
