Pressure was and has consistently continued to mount on Rotimi Amaechi, governor of Rivers State to step down for other candidates in the Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, election billed to hold today. Up until last night and early this morning as gathered, politicians particularly from the South South are said to have continued to pile pressure on the state governor believed to be in a war of attrition with President Goodluck Jonathan. Amaechi would be slugging it out with two other likely contenders in Ibrahim Shema, governor of Katsina State and Isa Yuguda, Bauchi State governor. As at last night, Tony Anenih, chairman Board of Trustee, PDP, is believed to have spoken to Amaechi, telling him that his decision to contest the election may bring about needless hit up in the PDP. Anenih told the governor that his decision what ever its out come would create too much bad blood in the party, especially since a plan B has been put in place if Amaechi eventually wins the contest,” said a party source in Wadata Plaza, party secretariat of PDP. The plan B is that the newly formed PDP Governor’s forum that has more members in NGF would be given full backing to finally force an implosion in the NGF. Already Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State governor is chairman of the second forum and he is seen as the arrow head of those seeking to ensure that Amaechi does not emerge as the chairman of NGF.
