LEGISREPORTS NG – The National Assembly, it has been revealed, was responsible for prevailing on President Goodluck Jonathan to stay action on sacking outrightly the Governors whose states were affected by the declaration of emergency rule in his Tuesday nationwide broadcast. The disclosure revealing how Governors Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Shetima Mustafa (Borno), and Ali Geidam (Yobe) were saved from being thrown out of their respective fortresses of power into obscurity was made by the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media, Victor Ogene, in a chat with newsmen in Abuja. Ogene revealed how prior to the declaration, President Jonathan had invited the leadership of the National Assembly to get the input of the legislature before making his pronouncement. The Deputy Chairman said the call which led to the retention of democratic structures in the affected states was against the backdrop of inputs and suggestions made by the leadership of the National Assembly to the President. According to him, “We are aware that the President before the declaration did interface with the leadership of the National Assembly, and I can tell you that the input of the National Assembly led to the management of the situation such that we do not have a complete state of emergency that would have swept away democratic structures in the concerned states as we had in the past”.
