The incursion was the second in seven months for Israel.
The Israeli Air Force has shot down a drone over the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Haifa which had flown south from Lebanon. Israel said a missile brought down the unmanned aircraft about five miles (8km) west of the northern Israeli port of Haifa around 14:00 (11:00 GMT), officials said. Shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday the Israeli Air Force identified a drone flying in Lebanese airspace south towards Israel. The drone was flying along the coast line, according to The Jerusalem Post. Military spokesman, Brig-Gen Yoav Mordechai, said that after the Air Force ensured that the aircraft was hostile, the commander of the IAF gave the order to shoot it down. An F-16 fired a missile and struck the drone some five miles from the coast of Haifa over the Mediterranean. The drone was at 6000 feet when it blew up. It is the second time in seven months Israel has downed a drone from Lebanon.
The drone is believed to have been sent by Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which fought a month-long war against Israel in 2006.
