One of the 12 policemen presumed dead in a militant attack that occurred in the creeks of Azuzama village in Bayelsa state, Mr. Lucky Ebebi, resurfaced alive on Thursday, thereby putting smiles in the face of his family who were still grieving over his presumed death.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta and another group formerly loyal to Rainbow, a militant leader had claimed responsibility for the attack which occurred last Sayurday with 12 policemen reported dead, but Mr Lucky lived up to his name and survived the attack.
Elder brother to the lucky policeman, Mr. Victor Ebebi after checking the 10 bodies of the policemen recovered and brought to Yenagoa after the incidence had insisted that he did not believe his brother is dead.
Mr Ebebi expressed optimism that his brother would come back alive to his family because he was likely to be among the two policemen said to have been kidnapped by the ex-militants. Just like the elder Ebebi predicted, Lucky was actually whisked away by the ex-militants who took him to their camp inside the creeks.
According to investigations, Lucky was freed by the ex-militants on Wednesday night after an undisclosed amount was paid. He was said to have been detained at the ex-militants’ camp with two other expatriates, who were kidnapped few weeks ago from a ship. Following the heat generated by the killing of the policemen, the ex-militants freed Ebebi and the expatriates.
